Sanitation and Your Table Top Items
People are increasingly worried about food-borne disease and it's no wonder. Outbreaks of e coli, salmonella and other illnesses frequently make the headlines. You should be vigilant throughout your restaurant or bar to have good sanitation in order to prevent the spread of illness. And sanitation concerns don't stop at the kitchen or salad bar. Restaurant table top items can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and other micro-organisms that can cause illness to both patrons and staff.
By following some of these key steps you can help improve the overall sanitation of your bar or restaurant and do your part to keep the people who visit and work in your establishment healthy.
· Wash hands properly. Handwashing is the number one practice you can do to prevent a food borne illness.
· Wash and sanitize all surfaces that people or food come in contact with.
· Protect eating services with table top items such as paper placements and tray covers. These table top items are the most reliable and useful way to control contact with bacteria and other microorganisms.
· Wash your table top with the proper products to keep them sanitary. Using the same dirty wash cloth to wash tables over and over again is not going to keep things clean.
· Use disposable single-use packaging when appropriate. It is safe and sanitary.
· Clean reusable table top items such as salt and pepper shakers, napkin holders etc. frequently.
