How to Handle Glassware Safely

Glassware breaks easily. To prevent glassware breakage and to avoid injury, follow these simple tips:

· Always handle glasses carefully.

· Never use glassware to scoop ice.

· Preheat glasses with hot water when pouring hot beverages.

· Never place hot glassware on a cold surface. Breakage is almost certain.

· If glassware breaks in a sink of water, drain the water before trying to remove broken glass. For added safety, wear protective gloves when picking up broken glass.

· Avoid glass to glass contact. Glassware can be scratched or break easily.

· Avoid stacking glassware. High "towers" of glasses can tip easily and can cause multiple glasses to fall and break.

· Wrap broken glassware in newspaper before disposing or dispose of it in a separate container market "broken glass".

Replace glassware that has chips or cracks. Shop for glassware
